The ESPN Top 10 NBA Players of All Time
The NBA is a storied league with a rich history, tradition and legacy. This is why ESPN decided to release a list of the best players of all time to celebrate the NBA’s 74th anniversary. The list is comprised of 74 players from the past, ranked according to their career value and peak performance.

The list features current players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis, but also some of the greats of the game such as James Worthy, David Thompson and Alex English. The experts voted on thousands of head-to-head matchups to create this unique list that is sure to cause some debate among basketball fans.
Tier 1 – Michael Jordan and LeBron James
The greatest player in NBA history, Michael Jordan won six NBA titles and was the most dominant scorer of all time. He was a two-time MVP and the all-time leader in scoring, assists and rebounds. He also dominated the defensive end of the floor and was a top-10 all-time defensive player.
Tier 2 – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Tim Duncan
The top spot in Tier 2 belongs to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who won 6 NBA championships and was the all-time leader in scoring, rebounds and blocks. He was the most consistent center in the history of the NBA and he won two NBA Finals MVP awards.
Tier 3 – Steve Nash and Dwyane Wade
The top slot in Tier 3 goes to one of the most recognizable names in the NBA, Steve Nash. He was an All-Star for over a decade, winning the MVP award in 2003. He was an incredible shooter who made over 50 percent of his three-pointers throughout his career and his shot-making ability and foul-drawing abilities helped him average over 20 points per game seven times.
Tier 4 – Tracy McGrady and Karl Malone
It’s difficult to ignore Karl Malone’s amazing play-making ability during his time in the NBA, especially when considering how little time he spent in the league after the 1995-96 season. Even though he suffered a one-and-done injury in the playoffs and never won a title, Malone is still one of the most imposing big men in NBA history. He dominated in the paint, averaging 19 rebounds per game while leading the Magic to the 2006 NBA Finals.
He also helped the Bulls win two NBA titles in 1997 and 2002 and he led them to the 2005 NBA Finals. His versatility and toughness allowed him to be a key member of any team that had the chance to reach the postseason.
Tier 5 – Kobe Bryant and Russell Westbrook
In our opinion, Kobe Bryant was not a true great of the NBA because he wasn’t a reliable three-point shooter and he wasn’t a good overall player. He did win multiple MVP awards and he was a great player for his time, but he just wasn’t a true GOAT in our opinion.
The bottom of the Tier 5 is filled with some other legendary players including Bob Cousy, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. These players were all great and they deserved to be included on the list, but it was too hard to rank them.
